BRIAN MAY INTERVIEW IN FEBRUARY Q MAGAZINE

Brian has been interviewed by Q Magazine. The interview is expected to appear in the issue out 1 February, which will probably be available mid-to-late January 2008.

The Great British Music issue will celebrate 50 years of British rock and pop - decade by decade, from the ’50s to the ’00s. For each decade, there will be a 4-page Q&A interviews, including centrepiece, with a band or artist who came to prominence during that era, such as Sir Cliff Richard, Elvis Costello, the Prodigy (among others), plus Brian May.

Q consider Queen one the most significant acts of the past 40 years, and that it would be odd to do a British-themed iissue without them.

The interview with Brian is expected to cover both Queen and Brian’s whole career, particularly the ’70, when the band first became such a creative force, though, as we know, they later scaled great heights in successive decades.

All you do, is try to guess the definition of the words that pop up, it's multiple choice, and every answer you get right, 20 grains of rice are donated through the UN. It only takes a few minutes, and helps build your vocabulary.

If you're skeptical, heres a link to their FAQ that explains it all: http://freerice.com/faq.html

LOST IN THE POST, CHARITY GUITAR SIGNED BY BRIAN MAY ET AL

Putting his name to it: Brian May with the guitar

According to:
THE DAILY MAIL (7 December 07)

LOST IN THE POST, THE £20,000 CHARITY GUITAR SIGNED BY THE STARS

Rock legends happily signed the guitar Dave Allen carried with him on a fundraising crusade. Rather than risk losing it in the post, the music promoter or a member of his staff would personally ferry the Fender Stratocaster around the country. But just weeks before the instrument - boasting the signatures of Eric Clapton, Brian May, Jimmy Page and Bill Wyman, among others - was due to fetch around £20,000 at auction for a children's charity, it has vanished.

Unable to find anyone to carry it home from a signing by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, Mr Allen entrusted it to couriers Parcelforce for the first time - and they promptly lost it.

Yesterday Mr Allen said he was "gutted" at the news as he contemplated starting the year-long project again from scratch.

The guitar disappeared last month while in the care of Parcelforce en route from Knopfler's London office to Mr Allen's home in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

The firm has spent four weeks scanning closed-circuit TV footage of its premises and searching depots in a futile bid to track down the missing instrument, which also featured the signatures of Gary Moore, Pete Townshend of The Who and Hollywood actor and blues musician Steven Seagal. Parcelforce has now offered Mr Allen, of Mad Hatters Concerts, £15,000 as a gesture of goodwill.

Yesterday the promoter told how he had been reluctant to leave the guitar in the post for fear it would go missing - but his hand was forced when other commitments left nobody free to drop it off.

The guitar, donated by a music industry employee who had heard about Mr Allen's project, was insured only for its £600 face value.

Brian May has already been in touch with Mr Allen, offering to resign another guitar.

CHILE TO DECLARE THE WHALE A NATURAL TREASURE

Trananslation from Spanish by Julie Pietryla

Article from
TERCERA.CL

Senator Guido Girardi described the Japanese as “Nazis”, since that country announced the renewal of the hunting of these cetaceans for scientific purposes.

by Angélica Baeza Palavecino

In an lengthy meeting, chancellor Alejandro Foxley, together with senators Guido Girardi and Antonio Horvath, as well as leaders of environmental and civil organizations, reached an agreement to present a legal petition to declare the whale a natural treasure, a title currently held only by the larch. This agreement came about as a result of the announcement by Japan to resume the hunting of these cetaceans, claiming scientific purposes.

Regarding this petition, chancellor Foxley emphasized that the Chilean legislation prohibits the hunting of this animal in national territory and “we are going to work together to prepare for the next international whaling convention (which will take place in May in Chile) to formulate a common agenda, and we are going to seek support from other countries that share the same ethical values concerning the whale”.

In the meantime, senator Girardi fired off critical salvos against Japan, describing them as “modern-day Nazis” and added that the country does not want nor will it allow “ecocide”. The parliamentarian maintained that the justification by the Japanese for killing one thousand whales for scientific purposes is a “lie”. “It’s like saying in order to conduct scientific research on human beings it is necessary to kill them first”.

Meanwhile, senator Horvath maintained that “they will not allow countries that have never been whalers and that are being influenced by Japan to vote in favor of lifting (rescinding) the moratorium”.

All those present emphasized the participation of civil society in this matter, which indicates the degree of commitment and the widespread interest that exist in the country.

HISTORIC PETITION: REPLACING ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS IN EUROPE

Brian May supports this petition and asks that we support it here... please read:

UNCAGED CONFIRM ANYONE CAN SIGN PETITION,
EVEN IF OUTSIDE EUROPE

Candlelit Procession unites animal rights advocates for EU vivisection battle

Please sign the EU petition against animal testing - deadline soon!

The European Commission is currently reviewing the 20 year old legislation governing EU animal experiments (Directive 86/609/EEC). A fierce battle is developing between the anti-vivisection movement and animal research interest groups over the form of this new legislation, which will profoundly affect millions of animals. At this crucial time, UNCAGED’s Candlelit Procession for Animal Rights in London on Sunday 9 December is uniting opponents of animal experiments in this campaign.

The Commission states that its ultimate aim is to end animal experimentation. Animal advocates are fighting hard to ensure that this intention is put into practice as vigorously as possible. To this end, Uncaged has been promoting the EU-wide petition initiated by the Dr Hadwen Trust for Humane Research which urges EU legislators to do everything they can to end animal experiments in Europe. Replacing animal experiments will not only save millions of animals from horrific abuse, but massively improve the validity of testing procedures.

Together, we will take this mass appeal from tens of thousands of EU citizens direct to Brussels early next year, which is a key stage in the legislative process. But the deadline for signing the petition is looming large: 21 December.

Please click here to sign this CRUCIAL, HISTORIC PETITION.

As Dr Dan Lyons explains, the recognition of animal rights' is a key factor in empowering the campaign against EU vivisection:

'There are compelling and mutually-reinforcing ethical and scientific arguments against animal experimentation. As the public, scientists and politicans develop a greater understanding that vivisection involves the brutal abuse of the rights of sentient, self-aware individuals, they will perceive the scientific flaws of animal experimentation to be of even greater significance.'

Candlelit Procession Details
The Candlelit Procession in London is the centrepiece of this year’s International Animal Rights Day (IARD), which is now commemorated annually on or around 10th December. This innovative and positive event is inspiring new activists in the UK as well as campaigners across the globe. Animal advocates from Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Croatia are showing amazing support by travelling to London for the Candlelit Procession.

On Sunday 9 December 2007 we will be assembling at 2.30pm at Lincoln’s Inn Fields in Holborn, Central London (WC2) for speeches and testimonials from animal rights activists around the world broadcast on a giant TV screen. (Click here for a map for Lincoln’s Inn Fields). We will then move off at 4pm through Central London with the giant TV screen showing a positive animal rights presentation bringing up the rear of the procession, finishing just beyond the Houses of Parliament.

· Please bring candles and lanterns!
· Please don't bring placards and banners, nor loud-hailers, drums etc. - the combination of hundreds of candles and the Big TV at the rear of the procession will be a very powerful and evocative expression of the animal rights message. This innovative approach to demonstrating is attracting people who have never come out onto the streets before!

If you can't make it to the London Procession, please hold a vigil, stall or protest in your local area. Click here for details. English and foreign language leaflets are now downloadable from our website, so you can easily obtain materials for an event to mark International Animal Rights Day!
