Here are a few pics from the investiture of my wonderful missis as a Companion of LIPA - in Liverpool last week. I was very proud!

Brian was asked if himself, Roger and Ben likely to make it down to New Zealand for the opening in October... We are in the Studio with Paul at this time, the only time when we all had a 'window' of opportunity - so it won't be easy for us to get down to Auckland, much though I would love to .... Ooooooh ... such happy memories of Auckland ... ! Well, we will have to see how it works out. Love © brianmay.com |
**Wed 01 Aug 07** REPLACES PREVIOUS ARTICLE (Sun 29 Jul 07) I'm very upset that someone has turned something I wrote on the Web-site into "Brian slams Andrew Lloyd-Webber". I had absolutely no such intention - I have absolutely no bone to pick with Andrew, as a respected fellow composer and producer, and I do feel this is a deliberate bit of stirring up by some journalist. This has been lifted out of my Soapbox article, out of context, and deliberately been given a spin to make a headline. It's noticeable that Andrew's name did not even appear in my little piece ... which actually was mainly about telling people NOT to whinge about TV promoted shows, because they are bringing in business to the West End as a whole. Damn. I might be better just shutting up in the future. It's so easy to be misconstrued. And wake up one morning to suddenly find you're at war with someone for no reason. Cheers © brianmay.com |
**Sun 29 Jul 07** Now this is what I call a good home for a BM Guitar!
Paul Crook, Master of Metal, is pictured here in .... erm ... an arena ... in the USA, with a special WHITE RED SPECIAL. He is currently on tour with Meat Loaf, but known and loved by us all for playing fabulous guitar in the Las Vegas We Will Rock You last year. We miss him!! Cheers © brianmay.com |
**Sun 29 Jul 07**
Here's a stereo photograph NOT by me, for a change. This is by my good friend Gisela Will - she is an expert. Check this out - it's pretty amazing ... if you can 'get' the stereo by free-viewing, or print it out and put it into a viewer ... it will leap out at you ... cheers © brianmay.com |
**Fri 27 Jul 07** Brian took part in a web-cast from the Observatorio in La Palma last week. For more about the web-cast content - see later on BRIAN NEWS.... Ah yes ... the Web-cast! Yes, it was all thrown together very quickly. They took the picture at the time of me actually doing the web-cast. But really I was NOT doing the typing (usually I do, of course, if writing on Brianmay.com). I was in the office of the Residencia in the Observatorio Roque de Los Muchachos, La Palma. The lovely Nadzrezda (from the PR of the IAC) was translating 'live' and typing at the same time. In Spanish? ONLY? YES! A bit of a flaw in the system! There was no record of my English answers. I'm sure some of the people who wrote in in ENGLISH could not understand the answers!! I realized this at the time, but of course it was too late. If they are translated back in to English I'm sure some of them will sound funny!! Next time I will know. All we would need would be a tape (disc?) recorder in the room. But for now .... that's what it is !! Love Bri © brianmay.com |
| **Thu 26 Jul 07** Asked if he would be back from his travels in time for Anita's Liverpool honour, Brian replied: [See BRIAN NEWS] Yes, I will accompany Anita to her LIPA ceremony! Bri © brianmay.com |
**Wed 25 Jul 07** We have now completed 3 nights observations .... or actually parts of nights because it's only possible to work on the ZL when the moon is absent. There is a lot I could say but at the moment I am working all hours so no time to write ... But maybe you'd like to see the Telescope we are working in ..... Galileo ... Galileo ..... how full of coincidences life is!!
Two More pics...

Well, just in case I might have forgotten most of the last 60 years (a good guess!) here it all is !! From the inimitable Jenn Waitt. A HUGE thank you for all your messages for my birthday ... I will be working my way through them for at least a year!!!! Cheers! Love © brianmay.com |
**Tue 17 Jul 07** Well, it's a big one, with a Zero on the end. Ouch. I wonder if it's normal to feel an uncomfortable twinge on such an occasion. It doesn't seem real. I still feel like a kid. But my bones (as prophesied in "Fat Bottom Girls") are telling me different. I takes about half a day for me to wake up ! I must say thank you already for all the kind messages ... much appreciated. I will be in Liverpool tomorrow to celebrate with about 500 graduates ! The inimitable Jenn Waitt has sent me an excellent 60th birthday logo .... so here it is ! There is more to come.
Take care all .... Bri © brianmay.com |
**Tue 17 Jul 07** Hi Folks As always, it's a problem that the media tend to make things up, or at least selectively modify or simplify to adapt the news to a form which sells newspapers (or whatever) best. Not that it bothers me every day of the week ... usually there are much more interesting things to worry about. But right now, something needs to be put straight. I have NOT yet been awarded the PhD which has been occupying my thoughts, sleeping or waking, for what seems like half a lifetime .. (yes, I know it is confusing ... since I was privileged to receive an honorary degree from Exeter last week, and am about to receive a Fellowship from Liverpool this week, 19 July.) OK. I have pretty much completed the thesis on Zodiacal Dust, and have bound up a few copies to run by some trusted friends, for comments, but basically I will not be actually formally submitting the thesis until the beginning of August. At this point, bound copies will go to my internal and external examiners. On August 23rd, I will meet these examiners, who will have had time to digest my work, and I will be defending my work to them. IF, at the end of this, and only if, they are convinced of the validity of my thesis, as a significant contribution to the subject, they will award me the title of Doctor of Philosophy. I will then have to wait until the Imperial College Degree awards ceremony next May, to actually receive my certificate of the qualification. The fact that it has been reported that I already have the degree is causing me some embarrassment, and might even jeopardise the process by which I hope it will happen. It is not a foregone conclusion that I will succeed. Meanwhile, I will still be working away, doing some more polishing, so that in the end, this will be, like the recordings I've been involved with over the last 35 years or so, hopefully, something to be proud of. So. Thanks for listening. I hope you are all progressing nicely out there in your projects ... and that the press doesn't misquote you too badly. Love © brianmay.com |
